4 Caring Actions That Prevent External Influences Affecting Performance

Influences away from sport can play a significant role in your athlete’s performances. In fact, research has shown that sports performance correlates closely with the mental health of athletes. This makes a lot of sense, as mental health problems can negatively affect an athlete’s energy levels, concentration, dependability, and optimism, which all hinder performance.

The opposite can be said for athletes with a healthy state of mind, however. Happiness inspires energy, a sharper focus, and optimism. Some might say this is the perfect recipe for high performance. Therefore, if the mental health of our athletes plays such a significant role, then it is surely incumbent upon us to address external influences to ensure our athletes are happy and healthy.

Unfortunately, many external influences are largely outside of our control. Besides that, coaches shouldn’t be expected to play the role of a clinical psychologist, social worker, or family therapist. But that doesn’t mean we can sit by and do nothing.

Coaches care about their athletes much like parents care for their children. Therefore, whilst we may not be professionals in this space, we want to assist. Thankfully, there are significant actions you can take to assist your athletes in dealing with external problems. This will assist them in living happy and healthier lives.

These actions include;
