What is the role of a coach? It seems like a pretty obvious question, but that doesn’t mean it is obvious. In essence, the role of any coach is to teach. Regardless of the level you are coaching, your role is to teach your athletes to become better athletes and people. Seems simple doesn’t it? Well, we wish it were that simple.
Below is a short video, courteous of mycoachonline.com, in which a former American football quarterback discusses the role of a coach. One great piece of advice from this video is not to assume the people you are coaching know anything. Even the best players or athletes can learn new things.

Whilst we might assume that we need to teach more seasoned athletes more advanced things, it is not always the case. More often than not, the greatest improvements come from better understanding and executing the basics.
